Raja Ampat in Indonesia. Last international vacati Raja Ampat in Indonesia. Last international vacation we took before Covid. If I had known, would I have done things differently? Stay longer? Travel slower?
I put off writing about the trip because... well *look around vaguely at the everything* but finally, you can read about this most amazing place on jacknjilltravel.com.
If you're starting to dream of your very first post-vaccination, post-Covid trip, check it out. Link in bio.
I pushed back some international travels because I I pushed back some international travels because I realised that in the summer, there's nowhere I'd rather be than the mountain ranges of Western states, and that includes Colorado my home state. I can't help but catching 14er fever too even though I like peaks of all kinds and heights. I simply can't wait for more car camping, miles of dirt road, long days exploring, followed by cold beer.
So lucky to live in a country where our state park So lucky to live in a country where our state parks are just as gorgeous as our national parks, with a fraction of the crowd.

Latest on the blog is about this gem in southern Utah and our fave hike we did there. The best part? It's a great destination in winter for its mild weather. In fact the photo was taken in December.

What is your fave state park? .

It was almost zero visibility and -23F wind chill. It was almost zero visibility and -23F wind chill. Your balaclava is caked in frosted breath and it hurts to breathe. You're going fast, faster than you should maybe (then again it's hard to tell when you can't see far). Your ski catches an edge on a hidden bump. And you flail. You're convinced you're going to eat it. For sure. You brace for the tumble, for the pain. And yet... a fortuitous gust of wind. Or something. You get your balance back. You whoop under your breath - you're not the kind of person who whoops out loud. For that short split second you feel... invincible.
Hope you're finding joy, wherever you are.
There's a reason why Persian architects and design There's a reason why Persian architects and designers was once world renowned. In Isfahan I was blown away by the impressive tile work on the walls and domes of the mosques built in 16th-17th century. Like many others I walked with mouth agape and eyes wide. It's humbling.

There are many pink salt lakes around the world bu There are many pink salt lakes around the world but this if the first time I've gotten close and personal to one. Not sure if the color is due to salt loving algae or bacteria, but it sure is pretty. Have you ever seen a pink lake before?

A few weeks ago we had to say good bye to our gent A few weeks ago we had to say good bye to our gentle giant. His shelter bio stated he was a 12 yo senior so we knew we were on borrowed time even from the start.
But somehow we were given one more summer, one more year, one more big life change... Then after 9 years of ruling our house and our hearts, the inevitable day came. Still how lucky we are to have those 9 years of memory.
Giving a painless goodbye was the least we could do for the countless moments of joy he had given us. Even when it's far from painless for those left behind.
Sleep tight, old friend. May your dream be filled with endless cuddles, piles of fresh laundry, and sunny spots by a window. I'm so very happy to have had you in my life.
Spending birthday weekend on dirt county roads, ca Spending birthday weekend on dirt county roads, car camping, long hikes, and leaf peeping. Those peaks just got a recent dusting of snow and they're just gorgeous. A not too shabby way to start my absolute fave time of the year.

I'm excited to go back to Europe this summer for some hiking and climbing. We've done this 5 years in a row I guess we can call it a yearly tradition now. I've hiked in the Swiss Alps, Los Picos, the Pyrenees, Julian Alps, and the Tatras, but this June I'm going somewhere that I've been dreaming about for a loooong time: the mighty Italian Dolomites. I think it's going to be pretty amazing.
.
So if you have any trail or via ferratas recommendations, I'd love to hear it!
