I pushed back some international travels because I I pushed back some international travels because I realised that in the summer, there's nowhere I'd rather be than the mountain ranges of Western states, and that includes Colorado my home state. I can't help but catching 14er fever too even though I like peaks of all kinds and heights. I simply can't wait for more car camping, miles of dirt road, long days exploring, followed by cold beer.
Raja Ampat in Indonesia. Last international vacati Raja Ampat in Indonesia. Last international vacation we took before Covid. If I had known, would I have done things differently? Stay longer? Travel slower?
I put off writing about the trip because... well *look around vaguely at the everything* but finally, you can read about this most amazing place on jacknjilltravel.com.
If you're starting to dream of your very first post-vaccination, post-Covid trip, check it out. Link in bio.
There's a reason why Persian architects and design There's a reason why Persian architects and designers was once world renowned. In Isfahan I was blown away by the impressive tile work on the walls and domes of the mosques built in 16th-17th century. Like many others I walked with mouth agape and eyes wide. It's humbling.

Throwback to the last trip I took before the pande Throwback to the last trip I took before the pandemic in early 2020. Europe was just starting to lockdown (my RyanAir flight from Amman to Bologna had 5 people on it), while the US was still trying to figure out what was going on.
I thought of my trip to Jordan as realization dawned on me as my trip (to Indonesia) is ending: I went through quarantine, the multiple PCR/antigen tests, the performative temperature checks, the endless barcode scannings, and now the prospect of a 40 hrs trip where mask is required.
Travel feels so different now it's getting harder to remember how it used to be.
(Btw, Jordan was kind of amazing and Petra exceeded my expectations.)
There are many pink salt lakes around the world bu There are many pink salt lakes around the world but this if the first time I've gotten close and personal to one. Not sure if the color is due to salt loving algae or bacteria, but it sure is pretty. Have you ever seen a pink lake before?

I miss Europe. I miss the ease of travels, the rid I miss Europe. I miss the ease of travels, the ridiculously varied regions, the history, the food and wine, the vistas... I'm so excited that we finally pulled the trigger and booked a flight to Portugal next year.
Also, we climbed Tres Cime (the tallest peak of the three in the background in the pic) and it was the scariest climb we've done...bar none. Thanks for getting us down safely @albaxioutdoor
Rooftop frolicking in Kashan, Iran. . The owner of Rooftop frolicking in Kashan, Iran. .
The owner of the guesthouse we stayed in Kashan asked me where I'm from (despite him literally holding my US passport). But I knew what he was really asking so I told him that I was born in Jakarta, Indonesia. .
He started laughing, and more alarmingly... he started to unbutton his shirt. One button after another.
.
I was like "Whaaaat are you doing ?!"
.
Turned out that he wanted me to see the t-shirt he was wearing underneath. Superman style, he showed me a t-shirt that says "I love Jakarta" complete with a Garuda (Indonesia's national eagle-bird emblem thingy) and all that.
.
It's a souvenir he got when he was in Jakarta a month before.
.
Now, what is the chance of that?! He was so tickled that he called me "Jakarta" all throughout our stay.

Packing tonight for Italy and I'm so excited to be Packing tonight for Italy and I'm so excited to be back! I'll be exploring a new part of the country: the beautiful Trentino in Italian Dolomites. Italy is one of the few countries I can keep going back again and again because the region is so varied, the food agrees with my palette, the wine is a plenty, the coffee is strong, and there are often cheap flights :) even from all the way here in California.

I just came back from 3 weeks in the Dolomites 🇮🇹. I'm a little sun burned and completely smitten! It's one of the best trips I've had. For an outdoor lover like me the options are limitless: climbing, mountain biking, via Ferrata, trekking, paragliding... I can keep going on. I have so much to share.
.
In the meantime, the picture is from the Brenta group, one of the 9 ranges that form the Dolomites UNESCO site and also the biggest. We were on the way to Rifugio Brentei, a 3 hour walk from the town of Madonna di Campiglio. But it took us longer because we kept getting distracted by the view 😄
.
Have you been to the Dolomites?
