Throwback to the last trip I took before the pande Throwback to the last trip I took before the pandemic in early 2020. Europe was just starting to lockdown (my RyanAir flight from Amman to Bologna had 5 people on it), while the US was still trying to figure out what was going on.
I thought of my trip to Jordan as realization dawned on me as my trip (to Indonesia) is ending: I went through quarantine, the multiple PCR/antigen tests, the performative temperature checks, the endless barcode scannings, and now the prospect of a 40 hrs trip where mask is required.
Travel feels so different now it's getting harder to remember how it used to be.
(Btw, Jordan was kind of amazing and Petra exceeded my expectations.)
A quick backpacking jaunt to the wilderness with f A quick backpacking jaunt to the wilderness with friends over Labor Day weekend. I've never been to this particular corner of Kings Canyon NP before and it's mind bogglingly, wildly beautiful. My love affair with California continues.

In Sudan,I had to rely, more than usual, on the ki In Sudan,I had to rely, more than usual, on the kindness of strangers and the people here rose to the occasion. From my fixer who ended up showing me around Khartoum, to my Airbnb host who introduced me to the family of his student who ended up hosting me, a complete stranger, in their house, to the people on the bus who made sure I got off at the right place, and so many others who made me feel welcome with a wave and a smile and an offer of tea.
These genuine connections are what I seek for, but do not always find in my travels. I found them in abundance in Sudan. Sudan made me fall in love with solo traveling all over again.

We've been taking advantage of what so far has bee We've been taking advantage of what so far has been a pretty mild winter in CO. Our first CO summits: Sniktau and Cupid, both 13ers but pretty mellow as far as summit goes 😊 - pretty lucky with the weather too.
I pushed back some international travels because I I pushed back some international travels because I realised that in the summer, there's nowhere I'd rather be than the mountain ranges of Western states, and that includes Colorado my home state. I can't help but catching 14er fever too even though I like peaks of all kinds and heights. I simply can't wait for more car camping, miles of dirt road, long days exploring, followed by cold beer.
Life update: we moved to Colorado! After calling C Life update: we moved to Colorado! After calling California home for almost 2 decades, I said goodbye to the Pacific Coast, Yosemite, our favorite people, and our neighborhood bars. It wasn't easy, and at times I do miss San Francisco terribly. But it felt right.
More about our move on the blog. Link in bio.
